Recently, one of my aunts passed away which made my life miserable, sad and difficult. She was someone who was close to me more than my parents. Starting from my career discussions to my recent breakup, she has supported me in all the bad times. Now she is no more in the world but still I can feel her presence each time. I was confused whether I should opt for orthodox funeral services or go for the modern way for the funeral. While I was a kid, she explained me the things which are required in orthodox funeral services.
As I was born to a east European family, most of us were eastern orthodox which has been derived from the Orthodox Catholics. We, East European family follow some particular ways which are similar to the catholic funeral. My aunt was against the entire process of cremation, so we have decided that no cremation will happen with her body. East European tradition believes that the human body should be returned to the earth. The normal procedure is followed which is putting the body in coffin and then buried the body in the earth.
Ask me when I was seeing my aunt’s body going in the earth. I was going through so many emotions which made me remember the days which I have spend with my aunt. Who will inspire me to be a writer and not a doctor? It was my aunt who has always taught me to follow the things which you love in life. None of my family members supported me when I chose arts as my course of subject in my graduation. It was my aunt who believed that I have creativity which would make me a good writer.
Don’t you think that it’s my responsibility to give her a grand funeral so that her soul can leave in peace? Starting from hiring reputed funeral directors to arranging the funeral, I have done my best so that my aunt’s soul can rest in peace. My heart was crying when mourners were throwing dirt on the coffin. God bless her!
